History of the TER Grand Est train company - Train Fluo

The regional express transport network of the Grand Est region, TER Fluo is a unified system bringing together the former TER Alsace, TER Lorraine and TER Champagne-Ardenne networks, merged to offer a harmonised, clear and high-performing service.

As with TER Occitanie, the TER Grand Est network was born from the territorial reform that merged three former regions. It was officially created on 11 December 2016, before the operating agreement between the Grand Est Region and SNCF was signed on 29 June 2017. The first harmonised fares came into effect on 10 December 2017, marking the birth of a single network for the whole territory.

Since 2019, TER Grand Est has been part of the regional brand Fluo Grand Est, which brings together all regional public transport (trains, intercity coaches, school transport). This shared identity, created under the NOTRe law, aims to offer travellers more clarity, visibility and intermodality.

The TER Fluo Grand Est network includes iconic services such as:

  • the TER 200, connecting Strasbourg to Basel at high regional speed;
  • the TER Vallée de la Marne, operating between Paris Gare de l'Est and Lorraine;
  • numerous cross-border lines to Germany, Luxembourg, Belgium and Switzerland.

With more than 396 stations served, the network covers major cities such as:

  • Strasbourg (the region's capital),
  • Metz,
  • Nancy,
  • Reims,
  • Mulhouse,
  • Colmar,
  • Troyes,
  • Châlons-en-Champagne,
  • Charleville-Mézières,
  • Montbéliard.

Today, TER Grand Est Fluo is one of the largest regional networks in France outside Île-de-France, thanks to a dense service offering and ongoing investment. The region is progressively modernising its trains, infrastructure and stations, with performance and interoperability goals set for 2030. The Fluo design, instantly recognisable with its bright colours, is part of this effort to make the network more identifiable.

The TER Rail Network of the Grand Est Region

In 2024, more than 185,000 passengers use TER Fluo Grand Est trains every day. The network relies on 24 main rail lines and more than 560 daily trains, ensuring full coverage of the territory and essential cross-border connections.

With its varied landscapes, nature parks, historic towns and mountains, the Grand Est region is ideal for train travel. TER Fluo lets you explore this regional diversity with ease, whether for leisure, work or everyday commuting.

Discover the region differently with TER Grand Est, and enjoy the benefits of multimodal travel with Tictactrip, your platform for comparing, combining and booking trains, buses and carpooling at the best price.
