Like in Normandy, the TER BreizhGo, better known as TER Brittany, form a unique regional rail network, tailored to the mobility needs of Breton residents and travellers.
Officially launched in 1986 as part of decentralisation, TER Brittany marked the development of a genuine regional transport policy. Before that date, Brittany did not have a coherent rail plan, despite a first regional transport scheme back in 1977. In the 1970s-1980s, many passenger lines had even been closed or switched to road transport.
A major turning point came in 2002, when the Brittany Region took direct responsibility for the TER service. This led to a strong increase in service offerings and a gradual modernisation of rolling stock. Since then, ridership and the number of trains have kept growing.
In September 2018, the BreizhGo brand was adopted to unify all Breton regional public transport: TER trains, intercity coaches and maritime links to the islands. In 2020, this common identity was strengthened with a new livery (trains, coaches and boats) and simplified fares, making daily travel easier for passengers.
Today, the TER Brittany – BreizhGo network boasts exemplary punctuality (over 95%), bilingual French-Breton services, and is part of an ambitious strategy to double its service offering by 2040 thanks to new investments.
With over 1,381 km of lines and 126 stations served, TER BreizhGo connects Brittany's major cities and many local towns every day:
Every day, more than 32,600 passengers use this rail network for their commutes, school trips or leisure travel.
The TER trains running in Brittany are notably Régio 2N trains, identical to those used on certain Transilien and RER lines in the Île-de-France region.
BreizhGo is not just a rail network: it also includes intercity coaches, maritime links to the Breton islands and several departmental networks such as Ti'Bus, Penn-ar-Bed, TIM and Illenoo. This merger aims to simplify travel, improve the clarity of services and encourage sustainable mobility.
Thanks to Tictactrip, you can easily combine your TER Brittany journeys with other French regions to travel everywhere by train. Also discover:
