Intermodality, now there's a big word. Don't know what it means? Don't worry, we have the answer (or rather, Wikipedia has the answer): intermodality means using several modes of transport during the same trip! Since the definition of combination is similar to that of intermodality, we'll give you some examples to make it clearer.
Say you want to travel to Brussels from Strasbourg to see your friends or for a session at the European Commission. So you check train tickets and find them outrageously expensive. Unfortunately, no bus runs at your intended departure time. That's where intermodality comes in!
Intermodality has two fairly significant advantages: it lets you save a considerable amount on your ticket, but also reach areas that are poorly served or not served at all! Everyone wins in the end :)
For our Strasbourg - Brussels route, based on the search results for this trip, we can see it's entirely possible to take a bus to Paris, then a train to Brussels. That's intermodality!
Let's get back to Rome2rio, if you don't mind. For a Strasbourg - Brussels trip, and for many other routes, Rome2rio will offer you combinations in the search results, which makes it an intermodal comparison site! However, this comparison site will also offer you, in addition to combining bus and train, combinations of plane and bus or even plane and train!
Of course, Tictactrip offers this feature within its comparison tool, with trains and buses. All you need to do is go to the "combined" section to see the search results and the options offered by the comparison tool. Note: if you see a dash, it means intermodality isn't available for this route on the dates and times shown. In total, we offer 50 million combinations, so go find yours!
Another very important feature for a travel comparison site is offering prices adjusted in real time. Adjusting prices based on what the carrier offers helps avoid unpleasant surprises when you reach the payment stage.
At Rome2rio, we can't be certain prices are adjusted in real time. However, we can assume they are, since the prices shown on their site match those on the carrier's site. Moreover, since the site offers a platform with integrated purchasing, it would be quite damaging to show a significant gap between the displayed price and the actual price...
At Tictactrip, on the other hand, we guarantee that we'll always show you the same price displayed by the carrier on its own site! That way, we avoid bad surprises and you make real savings ;)
Let's take a look at the destinations served in Europe by the Rome2rio comparison site — we're sure you're dying to know where you can go with this platform.
To be completely honest with you, we don't know exactly how many destinations Rome2Rio serves in Europe. However, we know the company records most of its traffic in Europe, and that it serves the biggest cities on the old continent, like London, Rome and Barcelona! More distant cities like Moscow, Istanbul and Stockholm are also available!
Although Tictactrip doesn't offer flights in its route search engine, unlike Rome2rio, we still offer you 3,700 European destinations spread across 31 countries on the old continent! Not bad at all in the end ;)
What's more, thanks to our partner transport companies across Europe, you can travel throughout Europe with complete peace of mind! Just enter your destination in the comparison tool and let yourself be guided :)
What types of transport can you compare on Rome2rio, the intermodal comparison site, you might ask? The answer is pretty simple: a lot!
Indeed, Rome2rio is not a comparison site specialized in one particular mode of transport, unlike comparison sites such as Kombo or MisterFly. Rome2rio lets you compare prices for the same route by train, plane, ferry, bus and car! Of course, if you want to travel from Paris to Angers, the comparison site won't suggest a ferry but rather a train, bus or car journey ;)
At Tictactrip, we only let you compare ticket prices among bus, train or carpooling companies. Yes, we wanted to keep our feet on the ground and be a pioneer in overland multimodal comparison! But maybe one day, ferries and planes will be added alongside bus, train and carpooling companies (never say never, as they say ^^)
After intermodality, here's another very important term in the world of comparison sites: integrated purchasing. To help you understand, let's give you a concrete example...
Let's say you want to buy a ticket for a Paris - Lyon trip and you've finally found the fare that suits you. Now comes the dreaded, fateful moment: paying for your trip... Let's be honest, it's always a hassle, especially if you have to go through several different websites...
And then, miracle: once your basket is confirmed, you stay on the same site to finalize your order and pay for your trip! That's integrated purchasing: a feature that lets you pay for your tickets directly from the comparison site... This feature keeps you from jumping between sites, and also protects you from surprises with a price that changes at the last minute...
So, at Rome2rio, this feature is available on the site! Be careful though, you'll only be able to pay directly on Rome2rio's site if the carrier you're booking with is a partner! For example, a Paris - Le Havre trip can be paid for on the site if you book with SNCF. However, for a Paris - Barcelona trip, for instance, you'll be redirected to a partner site...
At Tictactrip, the integrated purchasing feature is not yet available on the site. Rest assured, we're working hard to make it available as soon as possible :)
Finally, let's look at the French cities served by Rome2rio. Indeed, it's always interesting to see which comparison site has the widest network in France, which will greatly help you in your final decision...
As we saw earlier, Rome2rio has a fairly extensive network, with 150,312 train routes, 586,736 bus routes, 12,379 ferry routes and 55,626 flights, so you're bound to find what you need!
At Tictactrip, we cover the entire French territory thanks to our network of bus, train and above all carpooling. This mode of transport lets us reach less accessible towns and helps you discover more of the country ;)
What's more, Tictactrip means: 650 million connections and 4,800 cities served across Europe! What are you waiting for to book your trip on the site?
Rome2rio... This name might not sound familiar, but it's actually one of the biggest multimodal travel comparison sites in the world!
It was launched in April 2011 by Michael Cameron and Bernhard Tschirren, two friends (sound familiar? a bit like Tictactrip) and former Microsoft engineers. The idea of creating a comparison site like Rome2rio came from the fact that, at the time, there was no easy-to-use, fast multimodal comparison site offering worldwide coverage (again, much like Tictactrip for buses, trains and carpooling)... After several months of work, Rome2rio was born in April 2011 in beta version.
The site gradually grew richer, offering comparisons for flights, trains, ferries, buses and even driving directions! Today, the company has grown even further and even offers partnerships with hotels and car rental companies... Impressive, right?
Rome2rio is based in Melbourne, Australia, and now covers a total of 550,013 bus routes, 141,740 train routes, 46,445 flight routes via 670 airlines, and 9,916 ferry routes, an impressive record that makes Rome2rio one of the heavyweights in the field...
The cherry on top: if you want to compare your trip with Rome2rio, the company has developed a free mobile app, compatible with mobile and tablet, and available on both iOS and Android! Rest assured, your favourite comparison site Tictactrip offers a mobile version of its website, so you won't need to download another app...
