Liligo company FAQ

🛸 Intermodality & combinations

En savoir plus
So, what could possibly be hiding behind that rather abstract word "intermodality" for many of us?! In fact, nothing too complicated. It can be defined as "the use of several modes of transport during the same trip." To put it in context, that means that for one of your trips, you use several modes of transport. For example, to go see family on the other side of France, let's say you set off by train and then stop to take a bus or a carpool to finish your journey. It's as simple as that! This practice is called combined journeys. And we're quite proud to say that Tictactrip is one of the pioneers in this field. It's one of the only sites able to let you compare and combine your different trips across France and Europe. One of the advantages of this solution is that it allows even more routes to be offered to users, serving destinations that are sometimes overlooked by major transport lines. And of course it's also economically advantageous, since these are usually trips available at much more attractive prices than standard journeys. It's common to find tickets for under 10 euros on our platform. It's up to you to try it out!

🚌 Types of transport compared

En savoir plus
Liligo is a comparison site that lets you search and compare different types of transport. So it's possible to find a trip by plane, train, bus or carpool on the site. But it should be noted that Liligo was originally specialized in selling plane tickets. It was only several years after its creation that other types of transport were added. It's clear that Liligo is a comparison site mainly focused on air travel, whereas Tictactrip is a site that lets you compare and combine all types of land transport (bus, train, carpooling, etc.).

🇫🇷 Destinations in France

En savoir plus
With partner companies all around the globe, Liligo offers trips all over the world. Of course, you can therefore find routes to all sorts of French destinations on the site. But since Liligo offers a lot of flight routes and lacks intermodality, the available results are certainly plentiful but not always high quality. And indeed, intermodality and land transport allow platforms like Tictactrip to offer more affordable trips to French cities (but also European ones) that are sometimes poorly served.

🏷 Prices adjusted in real time

En savoir plus
Real-time price adjustments are really important for users of travel websites. These visitors come to online comparison sites because they're looking for the best deals on routes. Especially in terms of cost. It's therefore crucial for them to have access to the best prices. But if prices aren't updated live, site visitors may end up feeling misled. Indeed, without real-time price adjustments, it's possible for the ticket price to change between the moment you select your route and the moment you have to pay for it. Fortunately, most online comparison sites now offer real-time adjusted prices. And that's the case for both Liligo and Tictactrip!

🌍 Destinations served in Europe

En savoir plus
Liligo offers its visitors a large number of destinations in France, in Europe, and indeed all over the world. As already mentioned above, the site is specialized in plane ticket deals. Liligo can therefore offer its users trips to all 5 continents. Their number of countries served and partner companies (particularly airlines) is impressive. At Tictactrip, we're focused on land transport (bus, train, carpooling), so logically our number of worldwide destinations is lower. Still, we offer routes to no fewer than 31 countries in Europe and we partner with more than a hundred companies.

📲 In-app purchases

En savoir plus
Integrated purchases, what are they? Well, it's simply the ability of a site to accept online payments. For travel platforms like Liligo and Tictactrip, this means being able to sell train or bus tickets directly. Liligo doesn't offer an integrated purchase system for its transport offers. Indeed, if you're searching for a trip, you'll first need to select the route that suits you, and you'll then be redirected to a page on the site of the company offering that trip. Tictactrip currently works the same way. The site also uses a redirect system. But even if integrated purchases aren't yet in place on our platform, that shouldn't be long in coming. Indeed, this feature is planned for 2019. Soon you'll be able to book your bus, train and carpooling trips directly without leaving the Tictactrip site.

History of the Liligo comparison site

Liligo, what is it? Well, Liligo is a French company founded back in 2005. Originally 4 Frenchmen: Pierre Bonelli, Bertrand de la Ruelle, Xavier Corbel and Mikaël Quilfen, who launched their start-up in the travel sector.

Launched online in 2006, the site is actually a fairly comprehensive comparison engine. Originally dedicated to plane tickets, Liligo has since expanded to other products. It allows you to compare transport options such as flight, train, and carpooling tickets, but it also lets you search for the best deals on other services. For example, you can research and book your hotel, your trip, or your car rental.

Liligo is therefore a particularly comprehensive travel website, which is why it quickly became one of the biggest players in online tourism. The site experienced strong growth, and in 2009 it even launched its first television advertising campaign, which made it even more popular.

In 2010, SNCF and its site Voyages-sncf decided to become the majority shareholder in Liligo for 20 million euros. But in 2013, the site was sold on to ODIGEO, the European tourism giant, also a Spanish online travel company.

Today the site is available in many languages (English, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Hungarian, Romanian) and has expanded to multiple countries (the United States, for example).

Liligo is therefore an online comparison site that lets you organize your trip from A to Z! A kind of search engine processing a large number of travel deal sites to offer you the best options. It is not a comparison site specialized in transport; it also compares stay and accommodation offers, etc.

In terms of transport offers (which is what interests us), Liligo is above all specialized in finding the best prices for plane tickets. Of course, the site now also lets you compare trains, buses, and carpooling, but these are given less prominence and are not the core expertise of this search engine.

In fact, it was only in 2016 that Liligo became an interesting comparison site. By that we mean it was only at that point that the site added a service offering trains, buses, and carpooling in addition to flights.

Extremely comprehensive, Liligo remains nonetheless a simple online comparison site. It doesn't offer intermodal combinations like Tictactrip does, for example. Indeed, Tictactrip lets you compare journeys but also combine them. This results in combined trips between bus, train, and carpooling. Something that isn't currently possible on the Liligo site.

All this with the aim of offering you journeys that are always better suited to your needs and more affordable!
