Liligo, what is it? Well, Liligo is a French company founded back in 2005. Originally 4 Frenchmen: Pierre Bonelli, Bertrand de la Ruelle, Xavier Corbel and Mikaël Quilfen, who launched their start-up in the travel sector.
Launched online in 2006, the site is actually a fairly comprehensive comparison engine. Originally dedicated to plane tickets, Liligo has since expanded to other products. It allows you to compare transport options such as flight, train, and carpooling tickets, but it also lets you search for the best deals on other services. For example, you can research and book your hotel, your trip, or your car rental.
Liligo is therefore a particularly comprehensive travel website, which is why it quickly became one of the biggest players in online tourism. The site experienced strong growth, and in 2009 it even launched its first television advertising campaign, which made it even more popular.
In 2010, SNCF and its site Voyages-sncf decided to become the majority shareholder in Liligo for 20 million euros. But in 2013, the site was sold on to ODIGEO, the European tourism giant, also a Spanish online travel company.
Today the site is available in many languages (English, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Hungarian, Romanian) and has expanded to multiple countries (the United States, for example).
Liligo is therefore an online comparison site that lets you organize your trip from A to Z! A kind of search engine processing a large number of travel deal sites to offer you the best options. It is not a comparison site specialized in transport; it also compares stay and accommodation offers, etc.
In terms of transport offers (which is what interests us), Liligo is above all specialized in finding the best prices for plane tickets. Of course, the site now also lets you compare trains, buses, and carpooling, but these are given less prominence and are not the core expertise of this search engine.
In fact, it was only in 2016 that Liligo became an interesting comparison site. By that we mean it was only at that point that the site added a service offering trains, buses, and carpooling in addition to flights.
Extremely comprehensive, Liligo remains nonetheless a simple online comparison site. It doesn't offer intermodal combinations like Tictactrip does, for example. Indeed, Tictactrip lets you compare journeys but also combine them. This results in combined trips between bus, train, and carpooling. Something that isn't currently possible on the Liligo site.
All this with the aim of offering you journeys that are always better suited to your needs and more affordable!
