Megabus company FAQ

♿️ Access for people with reduced mobility

En savoir plus

All passengers with reduced mobility are welcome on board Megabus buses. However, so the company can accommodate you in the best possible conditions, it's advisable to contact them 36 hours in advance via this address (for trips within the UK).

For journeys in Europe, with Flixbus, it's also possible! Even though it's not stated, we recommend contacting customer service for better assistance...

🎟 Ticket types

En savoir plus

At Megabus, you'll only find one type of ticket, but it's a cheap bus ticket, so no complaints there. Just like at Flixbus, Megabus bus fares adjust based on supply and demand, but there's no first and second class, everyone's in the same carriage (or bus, in this case...).

So, having only one type of ticket has advantages and disadvantages. The upside is you don't have to agonize over whether to go economy or, for once, treat yourself to business class. The downside is that tickets are the same price for everyone, even for children. But rest assured, Megabus prices are so low they're similar to children's train tickets!

Finally, on the topic of ticket types, note that Megabus and Flixbus follow the same policy: e-ticket only. This saves paper and helps protect the environment... 💚

🐯 Access for pets

En savoir plus

We're sorry to inform you that your small pet cannot board a Megabus or Flixbus bus. However, guide dogs are of course welcome on board, free of charge.

👨‍✈️ Boarding

En savoir plus

Regarding boarding Megabus buses, as with any bus company, it's advisable to arrive early enough so you don't miss departure or get refused boarding.

As a general rule, we recommend arriving at least 30 minutes before departure of your Megabus. Imagine if every passenger showed up right at departure time: by the time everyone shows their booking to the driver and gets settled, you'll never leave on time and will likely arrive late, which is always frustrating.

🆒 Safety, comfort and onboard services

En savoir plus

Free Wi-Fi is available on board some Megabus buses. Most are equipped with it, but we recommend saving some of your 4G just in case you end up on an older vehicle.

However, unlike Flixbus buses, which offer small snacks during the trip, you'll have... toilets, air conditioning, USB ports, and comfortable seats. Better than nothing, right?

🏅 Loyalty program

En savoir plus

Unfortunately, neither Megabus nor Flixbus offer a loyalty program for regular travelers. However, rest assured, prices are so low that there's no need to save up, nor break the bank to travel by bus!

📞 Contact and phone number

En savoir plus

Missing some information? Find it on the Megabus website. Still can't find it? Ask the Megabus team directly by email at enquiries@megabus.com or via customer service by phone at +44 141 352 4444 (7 days a week, foreign number so extra charges may apply).

For Megabus' European routes, you can contact Flixbus customer service at this address or call 01 76 36 04 12. Have a good trip!

🚉 Points of sale for travel

En savoir plus

If you're planning a trip to the UK, you can book your Megabus tickets on the Tictactrip platform or online on the Megabus website.

You can also buy your bus ticket directly from the driver if you're travelling in Scotland or departing from London's Victoria station.

If you're travelling in Europe with Megabus, you can also go to Flixbus agencies, which will issue your precious ticket. Of course, Tictactrip and the Flixbus website are also alternative solutions worth considering...

🧳 Baggage policy

En savoir plus

What's great about Megabus is that the company offers a service called baggage allowance! The Megabus baggage allowance lets you bring one large suitcase (or 2 to 3 small suitcases together equal to the size of one large suitcase, not exceeding 20 kilos) plus a carry-on bag.

Note that bicycles are not allowed on board Megabus buses. That's a shame, but the UK isn't the best place to train for the Tour de France... However, if you take a Flixbus bus, you can bring your bike along!

💺 Seat selection

En savoir plus

Unfortunately, it's not possible to reserve your seat when booking a bus with Megabus, just like with Flixbus. No worries though, arriving early should let you pick your spot.

If you prefer the window side, know you have a fifty-fifty chance of getting it. If you'd rather stretch out a bit, go for the aisle seat instead. Either way, get ready to negotiate, seats will be worth their weight in gold!

Note that with Flixbus (Megabus in Europe), you can choose your seat for €1.49 (standard) or €2.99 if you want the best seat on the bus (panorama). At least you won't have to negotiate...

🧒🏻 Policy for unaccompanied minors

En savoir plus

Minors under 14 must be accompanied by an adult when travelling with Megabus. For international trips, the limit rises to 15 years old. Beyond that age, minors can travel alone.

At Flixbus, minors under 10 must travel with an adult. However, between 10 and 14, they must carry a written parental authorisation to travel alone...

💸 Cancellation and refund policy for tickets

En savoir plus

Good news for Megabus travellers with a changing schedule: you can change your ticket for £1 up until 24 hours before departure of the first bus in your booking. Of course, if the new ticket costs more, you'll need to pay the difference.

To change your ticket, go to the Manage Booking tab. Then enter your booking number, your email address or your last name and select your new journey. That's it! Simple, quick and effective.

At Flixbus, for trips within Europe, you can cancel your journey up to 15 minutes before departure. However, if you cancel less than 30 days before the departure date, fees may apply... What's more, refunds are issued as a voucher!

  • With Megabus, you can reach dozens of cities from London. Cool!

  • Megabus' interactive map lets you choose your destination from London. That way, you can continue your holiday in Bath, Edinburgh, Liverpool, wherever you like!

  • Fun fact: the bell inside the clock tower is called Big Ben... but many people think Big Ben is the tower itself. (It's not.) But now you're more cultured than all of them.

History of the Megabus bus company

Present in the United Kingdom and North America, the Megabus company was created in 2003 in England. The first route was London - Oxford, before gradually expanding across the whole country. In 2006, it also conquered the United States and Canada with its cheap buses! Want to take a Megabus Paris London trip? It's simple and cheap!

To see Megabus buses in Europe, you had to wait until 2012 and the first routes from London. It's now known in Europe under the name Flixbus since its takeover in June 2016 by the German company. Tricky to follow, I understand. To sum up the situation for you: in the United States, the company is still present under the name Megabus. In Europe, the subsidiary was bought out and is now called Flixbus. Now you know everything!

Its extensive network in Europe will let you travel with peace of mind by coach and always at a low price… Especially if you're planning to explore the United Kingdom, jump on Megabus buses! Megabus (now Flixbus) is a low-cost bus company serving England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. A great opportunity to go and see our British neighbours, they're very friendly, but don't forget your umbrella!

And yes, Megabus offers fares from £1 and $1 depending on the country! With prices like that, why not travel by Megabus (now Flixbus) every weekend? What's more, thanks to the 2015 Macron law, many cities are served by the Flixbus network!

Of course, you can find your cheap Megabus ticket on our Tictactrip bus comparison site! Don't hesitate to compare and combine your trips for a journey that's always cheaper and more eco-friendly...
