News about the Eurolines company

Eurolines, a Flixbus company, placed into compulsory liquidation

En savoir plus

Although the Eurolines company was bought out by Flixbus more than 3 years ago, the announcement of its compulsory liquidation comes as a surprise. On 24 July 2020, according to the employees' lawyer, the Eurolines company had to cease operations.

What's more, this case borders on scandal and unfair dismissal, according to the employees' lawyer, Mr Pierre-François Rousseau: "FlixBus emptied Eurolines of its substance, is now going to recover market share, and today is trying to get rid of employees without paying anything by using" the economic crisis linked to the Covid-19 epidemic as a pretext, according to Le Monde. Had the Flixbus company wanted to sink one of its former competitors by buying it out several years earlier?

FAQ about the Eurolines company

🎟 Ticket types

En savoir plus

Eurolines sells bus tickets. Good to know, in case you were planning to fly — that's not what this is for!

When you book your Eurolines bus ticket, there is no first or second class like with Renfe, for example. Everyone travels the same way, with the same type of ticket!

Of course, to get the best fares, we recommend booking your Eurolines bus tickets well in advance! There are even discounts for under-26s, children, and group rates (the 11th ticket is free for a group of 10!).

When you place your order, your ticket will be in electronic format. It's best to have a printed version of your Eurolines ticket to show the bus driver so you can board without any issues. The smartphone option for Eurolines bus tickets is also available.

💺 Seat selection

En savoir plus

Unfortunately, you cannot reserve your seat in advance on Eurolines buses... The whole #Tictacteam hopes you won't end up next to a snorer or someone who's just tested every perfume in the Sephora store at the station!

That said, if you want to choose your seat, you have two options: negotiate with the other passengers on the bus, or arrive well before the stated time... It's up to you!

♿️ Access for people with reduced mobility

En savoir plus

Eurolines can transport your wheelchair (if it's not electric). However, the company unfortunately cannot guarantee the facilities at the stations it serves. We therefore recommend that you find out before making your booking! You can call 01 49 72 57 27, the official Eurolines number. The advantage is that the number isn't a premium-rate line, so you can explain your situation with peace of mind.

📞 Contact and phone number

En savoir plus

Didn't find an answer to your question? Here are Eurolines's contact details for any missing information about the company: you can reach them at +33 1 41 86 24 21 from abroad (landline only), +33 1 49 72 51 57 from France, or 0 892 89 90 91 (0.35 € / min + call charge).

🧳 Baggage policy

En savoir plus

Panic mode. You can't decide between your sneakers and your heels, your little dress and your jeans... But how many suitcases can you bring on a Eurolines bus?

You can carry two medium suitcases in the hold and one carry-on bag. According to Eurolines, suitcases must weigh less than 20kg (so forget the suitcase full of gold bars...) and the sum of their length, width and height must not exceed 170cm. But no need to choose anymore, bring all your clothes with you (not your whole house though)!

We recommend putting your name and phone number (even your Instagram if you want to gain a few followers along the way) on a small tag attached to your luggage. This will let you travel with peace of mind on a Eurolines bus. Do note, however, that there are a few rare routes where luggage is charged (here is the list of exceptions).

🚍 What alternatives to Eurolines are there for travelling around Europe?

En savoir plus

For long-distance bus travel, two players currently share most of the European network: FlixBus, with the densest coverage (40 countries), and BlaBlaCar Bus, very present in France and neighbouring capitals. Prices start around €3 to €5 for short distances.

Depending on your route, the train can also be competitive: night trains and low-cost offers like OUIGO or FlixTrain sometimes beat the bus on both price and time.

The simplest option is to compare everything at once on Tictactrip: bus, train and carpooling all appear in the same search, with combined journeys as a bonus.

👨‍✈️ Boarding

En savoir plus

At Eurolines, you're advised to arrive at the bus station at least 30 minutes before departure of your Eurolines bus.

WARNING, if you arrive less than 15 minutes before departure, you will not be allowed to board your Eurolines bus. That would be a shame, especially on the way back, as it would force you to stay on holiday. 😉

At certain stations, such as Paris Gallieni and London Victoria, you'll need to arrive an hour before departure. At other stations, such as Paris Gallieni and Bordeaux, you'll first need to get a boarding card from the Eurolines counters.

To board your Eurolines bus, there's no obstacle course, no logic test and no French test... You simply need to show your printed ticket on an A4 sheet and your ID card (although on some routes now you're required to have a digital ticket on your smartphone or tablet). It's as simple as that!

🆒 Safety, comfort and onboard services

En savoir plus

Facilities depend on the country you're travelling in, but we can guarantee that all Eurolines buses are equipped with toilets (the basics), comfortable reclining seats, and air conditioning. This ensures a pleasant and comfortable journey!

Not enough for you? For the more tech-savvy among you, more and more Eurolines buses are equipped with WiFi and power outlets. And, the cherry on top, on certain Eurolines buses, radio and a mini TV are available. Makes you want to stay until the last stop, doesn't it?

🧒🏻 Policy for unaccompanied minors

En savoir plus

Are you under 16? Even if you already have a beard and you're 2m tall, you must be accompanied by an adult to travel on a Eurolines bus. Not very convenient, but that's the rule at Eurolines.

If you're not travelling with one of your parents but with your uncle or your neighbour, you'll also need to have a signed authorisation from your legal guardian with you.

On the other hand, if you're between 16 and 18, you can travel alone, but don't forget your ID documents and travel tickets.

Have a great Eurolines trip

🐯 Access for pets

En savoir plus

We're sorry to inform you that animals are not allowed on board Eurolines buses. Only guide dogs are welcome on board for blind and visually impaired passengers.

💸 Cancellation and refund policy for tickets

En savoir plus

So what are the cancellation terms at Eurolines? If you cancel or change your Eurolines Paris bus ticket booking (for example) more than 72 hours before departure, Eurolines will charge you fees, amounting to 25% of the ticket price. The closer it gets to the departure date, the higher the fees will be...

Watch out, if you want to cancel your booking less than 15 minutes before departure, you will not be refunded at all. Think carefully before cancelling your Eurolines bus booking!

For a change (date or time), you can do so up to 6 hours before your Eurolines bus departs. After that deadline, you can only change your ticket at an agency (up to 30 minutes before departure). What's more, €4 in fees (€8 on an international route) will be charged for this operation. We therefore recommend choosing carefully before booking.

Since Eurolines offers cheap tickets, it seems fair that the company makes up for it on additional services.

🚉 Points of sale for travel

En savoir plus

As Eurolines is a company that listens to its travellers, it offers you several options for booking your bus ticket!

❓ Does Eurolines still exist?

En savoir plus

The short answer: no, not in its historical form. Eurolines, a pioneer of long-distance bus travel in Europe for more than 35 years, ceased operations after being bought out by FlixMobility (FlixBus's parent company) and the effects of the health crisis.

The major international routes Eurolines used to operate (Paris-London, Paris-Amsterdam, Paris-Barcelona...) are now run by FlixBus and BlaBlaCar Bus, often departing from the same bus stations.

Were you looking for a Eurolines ticket? Start your search on Tictactrip: you'll instantly see which companies now serve your route, and at what price.

🆚 Eurolines or Flixbus?

En savoir plus

Trying to decide between a Eurolines or Flixbus bus? It can be a tough call, though Eurolines is now part of FlixbusGlobal. Here are a few notable points on the difference between the two companies.

First of all, you need to figure out which argument will tip you one way or the other. Is it the price? Is it the travel time? On these factors, you can find the answer by searching for your route on our platform and comparing the offers from these two bus companies!

Otherwise, if it's comfort or your past experience that will guide your choice, we can't tell you much more... It's up to you to decide! For us too, the choice is difficult, it's mainly based on travel time and price depending on the company!

🏅 Loyalty program

En savoir plus

Unfortunately, Eurolines does not offer a loyalty programme to earn points or euros on each trip. And it's not likely to happen either, since Flixbus doesn't offer one either...

Main destinations of the Eurolines company

Eurolines Amsterdam

From 10€

  • Eurolines takes you to Amsterdam, the capital of the Netherlands, also known as the Venice of the North! Not because of its climate though, that has absolutely nothing to do with it... :)

  • The red-light district of Amsterdam is well known and worth a visit. This city is also famous for its tulips, its bikes, its canals and its rather special brownies...

  • Since we're nice, here are a few must-see spots in Amsterdam: the Anne Frank House, Dam Square or the Vondelpark. A little tip: don't forget your scarf, it's often chilly up there!

Eurolines Lille

From 5€
Arrow select destination
  • Heading north with Eurolines: today, destination Lille! The Capital of Flanders will welcome you in all circumstances (even when it rains, which happens fairly often, by the way)

  • Vieux-Lille is very beautiful, an unmissable district during your stay, especially if you have an Instagram account and would like more likes on your photos!

  • If you like parks, a short trip to the Citadelle Vauban is a must! You'll probably run into some funny creatures there, since the zoo is right next door... Plus, with the cheap tickets offered by Eurolines, you can even treat yourself to a nice restaurant in the evening!

Eurolines Brussels

From 9€
Arrow select destination
  • How about heading to Brussels with Eurolines? Yes indeed, you can travel to 29 European countries including Belgium thanks to Eurolines. It would be a shame to miss out, wouldn't it?

  • If you like flower markets or Christmas markets (and who doesn't!?), you have to go to the Grand Place to enjoy them. Right next door (if you can find it), you can also see the famous Manneken Pis...

  • Other random places that might interest you if you plan to visit Brussels: the Atomium, the Royal Palace of Brussels or the European Parliament. Don't forget to bring back some chocolate!

History of the Eurolines bus company

You don't know Eurolines? A former subsidiary of Transdev and Europe's largest bus network (with 29 companies), Eurolines is an association of private carriers founded in 1985. Its headquarters is located in Brussels, Belgium, but of course there are also Eurolines France routes! In fact, Eurolines can be considered one of the very first low-cost carriers in Europe! You can even take Eurolines Paris London trips, or Eurolines Bordeaux, Eurolines Lyon, or a Eurolines Paris Brussels bus.

To make things simple, Eurolines serves more than 33 countries around the world, such as Spain, Poland or France. Initially focused on Europe, Eurolines is also present in Morocco with many cities served in that country. Every year, Eurolines buses carry more than 3.5 million passengers to more than 1000 destinations. With this company, you have plenty of choice! What's more, the company regularly adds destinations thanks to its subsidiaries!

Eurolines offers cheap bus tickets for routes connecting major European cities such as:

  • Eurolines London,
  • Eurolines Amsterdam,
  • Eurolines Barcelona,
  • Eurolines Brussels,
  • Eurolines Berlin.

What's more, Eurolines coaches also serve every corner of France. The most popular Eurolines bus destinations are Paris, Lyon, Lille, and Bordeaux. That said, it was the company Isilines that mainly handled transport within France.

Watch out though, a small revolution: FlixBus is now the parent company of the Eurolines bus company (since May 2019, to be precise)! For now, it is still possible to book trips and travel on a Eurolines coach, but before long, the Eurolines network will be absorbed into the Flixbus network and you'll only be travelling with the German brand's buses.

Head over to our Tictactrip bus comparator to find your cheap Eurolines bus tickets! Have a great trip... ;)
