Comparator
It's important to know how many destinations are compared on your favourite ticket comparison platform, don't you think?
For Omio, their website states that they cover over 1,000 destinations across Europe, spread across 20 of the 28 EU countries. At first glance, these numbers look appealing. However, comparing this to Tictactrip's figures and the types of transport Omio compares, there's only one possible conclusion. This platform mainly covers major and touristy European destinations. Only major routes (flights and trains in particular) are compared. Your peaceful little village tucked away in the European countryside will most certainly not be covered.
This is once again where Tictactrip stands out! Our ticket comparison site champions intermodality and aims to open up these areas that aren't served by any type of transport. That's why we launched this new concept of intermodal service and transport combinations. So to reach a small town nobody's heard of, you can find routes combining a train and then a carpool to get you to your destination! Tictactrip also means over 3,700 cities served across Europe, spread across 31 of the 51 countries on the European continent — not bad for a three-year-old startup, right?
Intermodality, as defined on Wikipedia and on our Comparison sites page, is: "the use of several modes of transport during a single journey." It shouldn't be confused with the term "multimodal", which is also used on the Omio website. So what's the difference?
Intermodality implies that the tickets compared by the platform can also be combined during your trip, hence the term "intermodality and combinations". Multimodality, on the other hand, only involves comparing tickets for these different types of transport.
Put simply:
Omio therefore does offer multimodality through its ticket comparison platform. The Tictactrip platform, meanwhile, offers you an intermodal service thanks to our advanced algorithms and all our data, for over 50 million possible intermodal combinations!
Real-time price adjustments might seem like a "normal" service on your ticket comparison site, but it isn't necessarily available on every platform! This refers to the ability to always offer ticket deals at the right price, taking into account price changes directly from partner companies' data. Imagine you're about to book your tickets, carefully compared and chosen, and at the moment of payment you notice the prices are completely different. Or even worse, that there are no seats left for that journey! These hypothetical scenarios would drive more than one user (including us) crazy! That's why this feature is essential.
Fortunately for you, users, and for us, ticket comparison platforms, both Omio and Tictactrip offer this feature. However, it can happen that between the ticket selection stage and the payment stage, these prices keep changing. Our platforms will let you know immediately so you're never caught off guard.
This section covers the same type of information as the destinations covered in Europe section, but on a French national scale. This lets you know which comparison site is more worthwhile to use if you're only planning to travel around France. If only the main routes are covered, that could be a problem for you if you're heading to a town a bit further inland...
Omio is available in France, and compares many bus, train and flight routes. However, as with its service offering at European level, in France Omio only compares routes on major roads serving the biggest French cities. Indeed, it will be impossible to find routes taking you directly to your small "out-of-the-way" town.
The land transport comparison site Tictactrip, on the other hand, lets you find routes anywhere across France! Indeed, driven by its ambition to first open up French regions, and then European ones, Tictactrip aims to be available in every French town. To find out whether your town is served, we invite you to use our route search platform on the Tictactrip website!
Not all transport ticket comparison sites compare the same types of transport. Indeed, some group them all together while others are "specialised" for certain modes of transport. This is, incidentally, the case for Omio and Tictactrip, which don't compare tickets for all the same types of transport.
For Omio, this platform mainly and exclusively compares train, bus and flight deals.
This is where the Tictactrip comparison platform, and indeed many other comparison sites, differ. Tictactrip focuses on land transport in Europe. Flights are then not relevant, as limiting things to Europe would greatly reduce the number of possible deals. Our comparison site is therefore mainly specialised in bus, train and carpooling ticket deals.
Integrated purchases refer to the ability for users to book their tickets by paying directly on the comparison site's platform. This means there's no need to be redirected to the ticket sales page of the comparison site's partner company in order to book tickets. This saves a considerable amount of time and means there are no unpleasant surprises.
The Omio ticket comparison site currently offers this type of service, letting its users book, right after comparing, the tickets they've carefully chosen. Omio integrated purchases are therefore available to you, make the most of it!
Tictactrip doesn't currently offer this feature, however our teams are hard at work to give you access to this online service! That's why I can already assure you that Tictactrip integrated purchases should be live on our website by the end of this summer! Good things come to those who wait!
Omio? Another new transport comparison site?
Actually no, Omio is in fact the new name of the bus, train and plane ticket comparison company: GoEuro! No worries, here's a recap of the story of Omio aka GoEuro!
The company was founded in 2013 (a while ago now, yes!) by its current CEO: Naren Shaam. He had realised back in 2010, through his own experience, how difficult it was to find the best transport deals between different countries: comparing them then became an obvious idea! That's the little story behind the founding of GoEuro back then.
In 2019 the company took a turn as it decided to change its identity by changing its name! Indeed, your multimodal transport ticket comparison site went from GoEuro to... OMIO! Why the name "Omio"? The comparison site's website tells us it's both a nod to the two "o"s in GoEuro, and that these "o"s surrounding the "mi" can be pictured as two points on a map (your departure point and your arrival point). The "mi" then represents you in between those two points. Hope you followed that!
What's more, this rebrand was apparently accompanied by an optimisation of the comparison site's service performance (website usability, speed performance on smartphone and desktop, and much more).
Finally, in terms of numbers, Omio, the German comparison platform, is today a company with no fewer than 300 employees! Also, many investors have believed in this multimodal ticket comparison project, since Omio has managed to raise more than $300,000,000! Its main investors notably include: Lakestar, Silver Lake Kraftwerk, Battery Ventures and many others!
