News from the Thalys company

Thalys becomes Eurostar: what changes for your tickets

En savoir plus
Since October 2023, Thalys trains run under the Eurostar brand. The Paris–Brussels–Amsterdam–Cologne routes remain the same: same red trains, same stations, same timetables. Only the name changes: tickets are now purchased under the Eurostar brand and the loyalty programmes have merged. Your already-booked Thalys tickets remain valid. On Tictactrip, search for "Eurostar" to compare and book these routes at the best price.

🚄 Thalys vs Ouigo: Paris-Brussels in 3h, here we go! 🎉

En savoir plus

🚄 Good news for travellers between Paris and Brussels: a new conventional line will soon add to the current offer. SNCF and SNCB are working hand in hand to offer an alternative to driving, with a launch planned around the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

This line will start with two daily return trips during the Olympics, before increasing to five trips a day from December 2024. The journey will be a bit longer than the high-speed trains (about 3 hours), but will offer new stops such as Creil, Aulnoye-Aymeries, Mons and Brussels. The trains, operated by SNCB in Ouigo's pink and blue colours, will offer attractive prices between €10 and €49 🎟️.

👉 Meanwhile, note that the Thalys network (now Eurostar) will experience some disruption until early December 2025, due to maintenance work on several trainsets.

Despite these adjustments, the project is progressing well and promises new travel options. We'll keep you updated on the next steps for your Paris–Brussels journeys 🚄🇫🇷🇧🇪.

Thalys disappears in favour of Eurostar! ✴️

En savoir plus

It's official: since October 2023, the Thalys train company has merged with Eurostar. The famous red trains continue to run on the same lines, but under the name Eurostar.

This merger has grouped all Thalys and Eurostar destinations under a single banner. You can now travel even more easily from Paris to Brussels, Amsterdam, Cologne or Düsseldorf, but also to London, Marseille, the French Alps (Eurostar Snow) or the south of France (Eurostar Sun).

Good news for travellers: onboard services remain the same – free Wi-Fi, Standard, Comfort and Premium comfort levels – but with the advantage of unified ticketing via Eurostar, SNCF Connect or partner platforms.

In short, only the name changes. The travel experience itself remains the same: fast, comfortable and eco-responsible, with even more destinations accessible under the Eurostar brand.

FAQ for the Thalys company

🏅 Loyalty program

En savoir plus

If you travel regularly, Eurostar (formerly Thalys) now offers the Club Eurostar loyalty programme, which has replaced the former TheCard.

With every journey, you earn points that you can then exchange for exclusive benefits: upgrades, free tickets, discounts, or access to Eurostar Lounges.

Frequent travellers on routes like Paris - Brussels or Paris - Amsterdam thus benefit from a simpler, more flexible programme to save money and travel comfortably. 😉

💺 Seat selection

En savoir plus

On Eurostar (formerly Thalys) trains, seats are assigned automatically at the time of booking. You'll receive all the information about your seat directly on your ticket: coach number and seat number. 😊

In Standard class, it's not possible to choose your seat in advance. However, Eurostar tries to seat families and groups together wherever possible.

In Plus (Comfort) and Premier classes, you can indicate a seating preference (window or aisle). This request is taken into account based on availability when seats are assigned.

💸 Cancellation and refund policy for tickets

En savoir plus

The cancellation and refund policy for Eurostar (formerly Thalys) tickets depends on the class and fare type chosen at the time of booking.

Good news: it's possible to change or cancel your ticket in most cases, but conditions vary depending on the flexibility included in your fare.

Here's an overview of the main rules in force:

  • Standard tickets: the lowest fares are generally non-refundable and non-exchangeable. Some tickets can be exchanged for a fee before departure.
  • Plus (Comfort) tickets: exchanges possible with reduced fees or more flexible conditions depending on the fare. Refunds are partial if you cancel.
  • Premier tickets: often fully flexible. They can be exchanged or cancelled free of charge up to 1 hour before departure, with full or partial refund depending on when you cancel.

👉 It's therefore essential to check the conditions attached to your ticket before booking. The exact terms are shown at the time of purchase and on your booking confirmation.

If you bought your Eurostar ticket via our site, you can contact our customer service directly, who will help you with any changes or refunds.

History of the Thalys train company

Thalys is a Franco-Belgian train company. Belgian Thalys trains take you from Paris to Brussels in 1h20 or from Paris to Amsterdam in just over 3h.

Since 2023, Thalys has merged with Eurostar to make travelling around Europe even easier!

Thalys was founded in 1995. Its first Belgian high-speed line, the LGV1, opened in 1997.

Today, Thalys connections serve 27 cities in four European countries (France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany) at affordable prices.

The company's trains are Thalys TGVs, linking France, Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany around the Paris-Brussels axis.

Since 2008, Thalys has introduced new features such as Wi-Fi and power sockets for every passenger.

Thalys aims to become a multicultural network and wants its trains to become ever more efficient and comfortable for the well-being of its passengers.

Besides being super comfortable, booking a Thalys ticket means travelling responsibly! Thalys has an environmental policy that minimises its impact on our environment.

Paris, Brussels and Amsterdam are within easy reach, and you can get there by Thalys train at a low price.

Thalys's success came from replacing Air France flights on the Paris - Brussels route in 2007.

The Franco-Belgian rail company regularly tests new destinations:

  • A route to Bordeaux during summer 2019,
  • an Amsterdam - Disneyland route
  • and more!

Since 2015, Thalys has been fully independent. However, the company remains majority-owned by SNCF, with the rest belonging to SNCB, the Belgian National Railway Company.

Thalys has its own railway safety certificates (a bit like Eurostar). Similarly, the company also has its own staff and trains to operate in France, Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands alike.

Finally, great news for Thalys Paris - Brussels travellers: the company's first subsidiary was launched in 2016.

Its name?

Izy! It's essentially a low-cost Thalys connecting the French capital to the Belgian capital, mostly via conventional tracks.

A great way to save on your Paris-Brussels train ticket!

Since its merger with Eurostar in October 2023, Thalys trains continue to run on the same lines, but under a single brand. This now lets you book all your international journeys (France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, and even the United Kingdom) through a single platform, with harmonised fares and a shared loyalty programme.

The seasonal Thalys Neige and Thalys Soleil offers still exist, but under the names Eurostar Snow and Eurostar Sun, making it easier to travel to the French Alps in winter and to the south of France in summer.

To get the best prices, it's advisable to book your tickets 3 to 4 months in advance. Starting fares typically begin around €20 for Paris-Brussels, €29 for Paris-Amsterdam and €35 for Paris-Cologne, depending on the period and flexibility chosen.

By choosing Eurostar (formerly Thalys), you get modern onboard comfort: free Wi-Fi, power sockets, three comfort levels (Standard, Comfort and Premium) and flexibility options suited to every traveller. An excellent balance of speed, competitive prices and eco-responsible travel.
