🐾 Types of animals allowed

Pets (dogs, cats, small rodents, birds…) can travel on Intercités under certain conditions:

  • Small animals (under 6 kg): must travel in a closed container (bag or carrier) with maximum dimensions of 45 × 30 × 25 cm, placed on your lap or at your feet.
  • Large animals (over 6 kg): must be kept on a lead and wear a muzzle for the whole journey.

Transporting animals is not free on Intercités:

💡 This fare applies per train. If your journey involves several connections, an animal ticket is required for each train taken.

  • Carriers and containers: must be closed, well ventilated and suited to the animal's comfort.
  • Lead and muzzle: mandatory for dogs over 6 kg.
  • Placement: the animal must not disturb other travellers or occupy a seat.

📄 Required documents

  • Up-to-date health record (vaccinations, notably rabies).
  • European pet passport: mandatory for international travel within the EU.

🚫 Restrictions and limitations

  • Number of animals: maximum 2 per traveller.
  • Guide dogs: travel free of charge, without a muzzle, and are not subject to the same restrictions.
