FlixBus child tickets

At Flixbus, the German bus company, the rule is clear: each passenger must have their own ticket, including babies and children under 3 years old. There is no free travel on laps. Flixbus's transport conditions spell this out clearly: "a ticket is generated for each person and each journey".

For journeys departing from or arriving in France, children under 3 years old must imperatively travel in an approved car seat, fixed using the bus's three-point safety belts. This seat must be brought by the accompany: without it, boarding may be refused. So remember to book a seat for your child and plan for their car seat!

Good to know also: children under 16 years old must always travel accompanied by an adult. And in terms of rates, Flixbus does not apply any child discount: your child's ticket costs the same as an adult's.

What about other bus companies?

Good to know: Blablabus, the Blablacar bus company, ceased its bus operator activity at the end of 2026. Today, Flixbus is the major player in regular long-distance buses in France. For other routes you may come across on Tictactrip, there is no single child policy:

  • It is always the policy of the carrier that actually operates the route that applies. Depending on the company, your child will travel for free, at a reduced rate, or at the same price as an adult.

  • Always think about safety: depending on your child's age, a seat or booster seat may be recommended or even mandatory. Contact the carrier directly before departure.

Finally, minor children can travel in France provided they have a document attesting to their identity. For international trips, they must also have the document necessary for border crossing.

Altibus child tickets

With this bus and mountain shuttle company, the Altibus children travel policy is quite simple:

  • All children must have a named ticket to travel on board Altibus shuttles, regardless of the child traveler's age

  • Depending on your child's age and the route you wish to take, your child will pay either the Altibus youth fare, the Altibus child fare or travel for free.

  • The Altibus company does not have child booster seats or child seats for your child's journey. However, you can always bring your own child seat. Unfortunately, the seatbelts on Altibus transports are very often central and do not allow a child seat to be installed.

  • Pricing policies for Altibus shuttle routes depend on the route taken. Inquire directly when searching for your route.

  • Finally, children can travel alone at their own responsibility and the responsibility of their parents and/or guardians. For routes passing through Geneva, parental authorization is mandatory and will be checked by customs.
