Skyscanner company FAQ

🛸 Intermodality & combinations

En savoir plus

What exactly is intermodality?!

Well, according to the most common definition, it's simply "the use of several modes of transport during the same trip". Admit it, you expected a more complicated concept given the name, right?!

To put it very simply, it's for example when you go on a trip and use two different types of transport.

Let's imagine you need to get to Troyes to visit family while you live in Nantes. Well, you can do it with direct bus or train journeys.

But is it also possible to make this trip faster or cheaper? Certainly!

By combining a Ouibus bus with a TER train, for example. This system is what we call intermodality.

These journeys are also called "combined trips" and this is one of the specialities of our intermodal booking platform Tictactrip.

When it comes to Skyscanner, it's more complicated on this front. Indeed, since the site only offers plane tickets, setting up intermodality is immediately much more complicated.

With only one type of transport it just can't work. Too bad, then.

On Tictactrip, however, intermodality is right there. Indeed, the platform compares all types of land transport:

  • train,
  • bus
  • or carpooling.

And thanks to our multimodal combination system, we can offer our users a large number of combined-transport journeys, trips to destinations that are sometimes poorly served, and often at better prices.

📲 In-app purchases

En savoir plus

We can define integrated purchases on a ticket comparison platform as the ability of a website or online platform to receive payments directly from users.

Currently (and in fact since its creation) Skyscanner does not work with this system. The site simply redirects users to the pages of the airlines or travel agencies selling the tickets.

And that's how Skyscanner earns its revenue, receiving commissions from its partners (no impact on the price for the user, so). These amounts vary depending on its redirection volume and the users who go on to purchase.

In 2022, Tictactrip lets you compare, combine and finally book all your tickets in just 3 clicks!

Yes, you read that right, you can easily book your trips and even your combined journeys in a single booking.

Travelling by train, bus, carpool, or even train + carpool or train + shuttle has never been so simple.

Enjoy simple, practical and efficient mobility thanks to combinations and integrated purchases on the Tictactrip platform.

🚄 Skyscanner train and transport

En savoir plus

In 2022, Skyscanner does not yet offer train, bus or carpool trips.

The Skyscanner platform lets you book only two types of transport:

  • plane flights,
  • car rentals to get around easily.

In addition, Skyscanner will offer you accommodation booking on its site.

So for Skyscanner train, that's not the case yet, but we hope to get the chance to enjoy it soon! Maybe as part of a future partnership with Tictactrip, who knows?

🚌 Types of transport compared

En savoir plus

Skyscanner is a very powerful player in the world of tourism, and online tourism in particular.

The British comparator indeed indexes airlines from all over the world. The site is therefore logically accessible in several languages (English, French, Chinese, Spanish, …) and is very popular with the general public.

In 2016, the search engine specialized in air travel claimed to welcome more than 50 million visitors per month.

Other figures also show that the company generated a turnover of 120 million pounds sterling in 2015.

Skyscanner is therefore indeed a leading platform in the world of online ticket comparators. It's one of the market leaders, particularly for flights.

In addition, the site is regularly listed among the most useful sites when preparing a trip, and among the most efficient comparators.

That's no small thing — it's proof that this is a reputable and trusted site in this field.

But, Skyscanner (as its name also suggests) only compares plane journeys and no other means of transport.

So plane is indeed the one and only type of transport compared on the site.

At Tictactrip it's simple: it's the opposite!

Yes, we don't compare plane trips, but you can search for all other types of land transport.

Train, bus, carpooling — you can compare and combine all of that on Tictactrip.

🏷 Prices adjusted in real time

En savoir plus

When you buy something online, demand is sometimes high and prices are often prone to change.

This is especially the case when you buy a travel ticket. And there's nothing more annoying than clicking to book a trip for 15 euros and then finding, when it's time to pay, a bill of 25 euros (for example).

To help their users avoid this kind of mishap, most online travel booking platforms offer a system that follows current prices and is regularly updated.

Skyscanner updates the tickets it offers by adjusting prices for its plane trips in real time.

Tictactrip, which also wants to offer its visitors the best destinations at the best prices, also offers real-time price adjustment.

This is part of our platform's service, which is to keep you as well informed as possible so you can compare, combine and book your trips in France and Europe with relevance.

🌆 Toulouse Paris Skyscanner route

En savoir plus

Is the Toulouse Paris Skyscanner route bookable and at what price?

On the Skyscanner platform, you'll quickly find trips from Toulouse to Paris starting at €24.

On Tictactrip, you'll easily find public transport trips starting at €16 from Toulouse to Paris! Make your choice, especially with the environment in mind for your domestic trip!

🌍 Destinations served in Europe

En savoir plus

In 2022, Skyscanner is still an ultra-important player in the world of online tourism and one of the most well-known travel comparators.

It simply lets you compare plane tickets to destinations all over the planet.

That means all 5 continents, provided of course that the cities have an airport nearby. Makes sense!

The number of destinations served by the Skyscanner flight ticket comparison offer is therefore very extensive.

This is also true for Europe. For example, you can head to:

  • Vienna,
  • Madrid
  • ,
  • Oslo
  • ,
  • Bastia
  • ,
  • Lisbon
  • or even London...

Even so, the various trips compared on Skyscanner do not manage to cover Europe as a whole in a satisfactory way.

Indeed, because these trips mainly lead to large cities, cities with an airport.

Access to smaller cities on the continent is therefore nearly impossible with this site.

Yet with transport and combined-trip booking platforms like Tictactrip, it's possible to reach a whole host of other cities in Europe.

By adding train, long-distance bus and carpooling companies to travel results, combining these means of transport, you'll get access to more than 6,000 cities across 31 countries on the European continent.

Pretty good option, isn't it?!

History of the Skyscanner comparison site

Skyscanner is a British company that emerged in 2001. It originally came from an idea by three IT professionals: Barry Smith, Gareth Williams and Bonamy Grimes. The project for this search engine came from Gareth Williams, a skiing fan who at the time was struggling to find cheap flights to winter sports resorts.

The very first version of the Skyscanner project was developed and launched in 2002. Initially, Skyscanner only covered low-cost airlines, the carriers known as "low-cost" such as Ryanair, EasyJet or Transavia for example. But since its creation the site has evolved a lot and expanded its offering. Most European carriers are now indexed, such as Virgin or KLM. But that's not all — the search is no longer limited to the European continent, it is now possible to search for trips from more and more destinations around the world. Skyscanner's stated goal is to eventually offer simply every commercial flight on the planet.

The site is available in many languages such as English, French, Chinese, Russian, Spanish, and more. Skyscanner allows its users to search and compare prices for different flights to a specific destination or all offers from a specific city. Skyscanner also lets you search for services other than flights, such as car rental, hotels or travel agencies. But the platform doesn't offer an integrated booking system — you'll be redirected to your trip's page, Skyscanner simply compares prices and trips.

Skyscanner is therefore a comparison site specialized in air transport, and it doesn't offer other travel solutions. Basically the exact opposite of Tictactrip. Yes, because Tictactrip doesn't compare plane journeys, but it is a comparator and combiner for all other types of transport. All land transport is available on the platform, whether for train, bus or carpooling trips in France as well as in Europe.

Today Skyscanner is both a website and a mobile app, but it is also a hugely reputed comparator worldwide. It is often praised for its ability to find plane tickets at extremely low prices. In short, if you're flying we recommend turning to Skyscanner, and for all other types of transport Tictactrip is just as effective!
