FAQ about the company Opodo

📲 In-app purchases

En savoir plus

In-app purchases, what's that again? Don't worry, it's not such a complicated term to understand, since it simply refers to a module that lets you pay directly from a website.

On the Opodo website, once you've chosen your route and provided your information, you'll get a box that lets you pay for your plane ticket! Handy...

On the other hand, the built-in purchase feature is not yet offered on the Tictactrip website. Rest assured, our technical teams are aware of this and are doing their utmost to fix it...

🛸 Intermodality & combinations

En savoir plus

Intermodality, what is that exactly? What does it mean? Going by the definition given by our friend Wikipedia, intermodality refers to "the use of several modes of transport during the same trip."

In other words, if for example you want to go to Barcelona for the weekend from Paris, you could make your Paris - Barcelona journey using a train, then a bus... That's intermodality!

Since Opodo is a transport comparison site entirely specialised in medium- and long-haul flights, it cannot offer intermodality in its flight search engine... However, you do have the option of booking a hotel at the same time as your booking.

Tictactrip, on the other hand, is a versatile comparison site that lets you compare your bus, train or carpooling journeys. Its strength lies in the fact that it lets you combine bus and train to connect more destinations! It's up to you to select the best route among those offered...

🚌 Types of transport compared

En savoir plus

When using a travel comparison site, we also look at the type of transport it compares. There are two options: either the comparison site in question specialises in a single type of transport, or it offers several modes for comparison.

At Opodo, the strategy is simple: specialise in a single mode of transport, the plane! Indeed, when you use the Opodo comparison site, you can compare flights from several airlines, with or without a stopover...

At Tictactrip, on the other hand, you can compare and combine bus, train and carpooling journeys. What's more, as we saw above, you can mix bus and train in the same journey. In other words, you get the best of all worlds! :)

🏷 Prices adjusted in real time

En savoir plus

Picture this: you're searching for a Paris - Amsterdam route for your week off. So you're looking for the best route to get there and you come across an offer at €10. However, between the moment you added the trip to your cart and the moment you got your card out on the carrier's website, the price had gone up to €15! What a letdown...

This story wouldn't have happened if you had chosen to use a comparison site that adjusts its prices in real time! Adjusting prices in real time means that the price shown on the comparison site will be the same as the one offered by the carrier. This helps avoid unpleasant surprises like the one in the example...

At Opodo and Tictactrip, prices are adjusted in real time, so that you really do pay the price shown at the moment you add your train, bus and carpooling ticket (or plane ticket for Opodo) to your cart.

🌍 Destinations served in Europe

En savoir plus

Another important thing to look at when choosing your comparison site: the destinations covered, especially if you want to travel around Europe cheaply.

Although Opodo doesn't disclose the list of destinations covered in Europe, we can assume that all the major European airports are covered by the comparison site! So if you want to travel to Prague or Budapest by plane, that's possible!

However, the downside of air travel is that it can't serve cities without an airport. Tictactrip doesn't have this problem, since this comparison site is dedicated to land transport (bus, train and carpooling), which allows it to cover more cities in Europe!

Today, Tictactrip covers 15 European countries thanks to more than 200 transport companies, which represents around 4,800 cities and 650 million connections across the Old Continent! Impressive, isn't it?

🇫🇷 Destinations in France

En savoir plus

In this section, as with the "destinations covered in Europe" tab, we're going to look at which French destinations are covered by Opodo. Indeed, it's important to know whether the city you're looking for is covered or not...

Looking at the list of French destinations served by Opodo, we see that the comparison site's database includes a large majority of French airports. However, if you want to travel to a city far from any airport, you won't be able to book another form of transport ticket (train, bus, carpooling) with it.

At Tictactrip, on the other hand, we cover a very large number of French towns and cities, thanks to our bus, train and carpooling offering. We've also included a few shuttle services so you can reach your city from a station (you can also do this via carpooling). This solution also helps open up many towns that would otherwise be hard to reach... Everyone wins!

History of the Opodo comparison site

Does the name Opodo ring a bell? Yet it's a well-known player in the travel and comparison-site sector... If you're not up to speed, here's a quick catch-up!

First of all, the company Opodo was created in 2001 (yes, that's almost 20 years ago now) by a consortium of airlines! What does that mean? According to the company's Wikipedia page, several companies including Air France, Lufthansa, British Airways and KLM decided to create a company in the form of a partnership...

In practice, Opodo started out as a travel agency, offering tickets from the airlines mentioned above. Over time, it also became a travel comparison site, allowing flights from these airlines to be compared. The arrival of Amadeus in its capital in 2004 allowed it to grow online and in the travel world.

Since 2011, the company Opodo has been under the eDreams Odigo banner. This means it's part of the same group as companies like Govoyages. In 2014, it even became LyEurope, but legally speaking, it's still Opodo.

Since 2016, Opodo has offered a rather unique booking system. Indeed, the brand teamed up with Météo-France to create a search engine that takes the weather into account when finding your next holiday destination... There's also the Opodo Barometer, which shows how the French have taken holidays over time and the share of internet bookings in holiday reservations...

Finally, if you'd like to know more about Opodo's business through numbers, it has 17 million customers in Europe and recorded nearly 12 million bookings in 2017! Not bad, right?
