Mobicoop works like any carpooling platform: drivers post their rides, passengers book their seat. The big difference is in the payment: there is no commission at all. The price set by the driver corresponds exactly to what the passenger pays.

Depending on the ride, payment is made online or directly hand to hand. It's a bit less regulated than on BlaBlaCar, but that's the price of the service being free.

Since the platform is a cooperative, you can even become a member if the project speaks to you.

The crux of the matter is the commission. On the same ride, a Mobicoop passenger pays only the driver's share, whereas BlaBlaCar adds service fees. On a long trip, the difference can reach several euros.

On the other hand, BlaBlaCar offers an unmatched volume of rides, systematic secure payment and built-in insurance. Mobicoop plays the ethics and price card, BlaBlaCar the choice and comfort card.

Because that's not its business model. Mobicoop is a cooperative of the social and solidarity economy: it belongs to its members, not to shareholders, and is funded by user donations and services it sells to local authorities (local carpooling lines, regional platforms).

Carpooling between individuals therefore remains entirely free, with no hidden booking fees.

In return, the community is smaller than that of the industry giants: on very busy routes you'll always find rides, on smaller routes it's more variable.
