FlixCar FAQ

👨‍✈️ Boarding

En savoir plus

Boarding a FlixCar carpool is no different from other platforms like BlaBlaCar or iDVROOM.

When you book your carpool trip, you'll be given a meeting point. Simply head there to meet your driver. Say hello, drop off your luggage, get settled in... and off you go!

A small issue? Contact the driver directly by phone, they'll be happy to help! 😉

💺 Seat selection

En savoir plus

When it comes to choosing your seat on board a FlixCar carpool, several options may be available to you.

First of all, if your carpool trip takes place in a two-seater car — and unless you enjoy travelling in the boot (which we don't recommend 😅) — the choice will be quick!

The same applies if you're the only passenger: you can simply choose the seat that suits you best.

However, if there are several passengers, you may need to use your negotiating skills to get the best seat (or at least the one that seems least bad 😉). Don't hesitate to contact the driver if it really matters to you... Good luck!

🧳 Baggage policy

En savoir plus

For now, no official information has been provided by FlixCar regarding the number of bags allowed per passenger. However, it's best to check directly with the carpool driver, who will be able to guide you on this — after all, it's their vehicle!

💸 Cancellation and refund policy for tickets

En savoir plus

The carpooling company FlixCar has stated on its website that it is possible to cancel a carpool trip directly from your member account. Unfortunately, the company has not yet specified the refund terms for a carpool trip. Rest assured, however, that this information will be available very soon.

🚉 Points of sale for travel

En savoir plus

Even though no information is currently available regarding possible FlixCar sales points, it will most likely be possible to book your trip directly on the FlixCar carpooling platform's website! Of course, you'll also be able to go through TicTacTrip to book your cheap carpool trip. The cherry on top: you'll be able to compare the various trips available, including with other modes of transport. Who can beat that? 😉

🐯 Access for pets

En savoir plus

Once again, it will all depend on your FlixCar carpool driver! Some will be happy for you to bring Biscotte or Rex along, while others will prefer your four-legged companion to stay with a pet sitter during the trip.

It's therefore best to ask the driver directly before booking your trip. This will avoid any unpleasant surprises for everyone. Generally speaking, if you're travelling with a pet, it must be kept on a leash and muzzled, or placed in a carrier if it's a small animal.

As the FlixCar platform hasn't yet communicated officially on this topic, we're trying to give you the most useful answers we can in the meantime!

♿️ Access for people with reduced mobility

En savoir plus

To find out whether the vehicle you'll be travelling in for your carpool is suitable for people with reduced mobility, the simplest thing is to ask the driver directly before booking your trip. Indeed, the FlixCar platform has not yet communicated on this subject, nor specified whether vehicles compliant with accessibility standards will be identified on the site.

🆒 Safety, comfort and onboard services

En savoir plus

The comfort and services on board your FlixCar carpool will depend not only on what the platform puts in place, but also on the driver... and their car! Naturally, you'll have a better trip in a Mégane than in a Twingo 😄.

But rest assured, friendliness and sharing remain the watchwords of a successful carpool trip. A review system is also planned to help you choose the trip that suits you best.

🎟 Ticket types

En savoir plus

For now, we don't know much more about the type of tickets offered by FlixCar, the new carpooling platform launched by FlixBus. However, this German carpooling company already allows travellers to book their trip directly online. 🙂

FlixCar is clearly positioning itself in the cheap carpooling segment, with prices often lower than those offered by BlaBlaCar. Indeed, you benefit from trips with no commission at all! A real saving, even though it's not yet known whether this pricing policy will be permanent...

Yvan Lefranc-Morin, managing director of FlixBus France, spoke on the subject, stating that "FlixMobility has deep pockets", and that there are no plans to introduce commissions in the near future. Unlike BlaBlaCar, which generally applies a commission of 0% to 25% (with a minimum of €1), FlixCar lets you pay the driver directly. The platform simply connects drivers and passengers, with no intermediary fees. Result: FlixCar tickets are among the cheapest on the market!

As an article in RTL points out, prices are indeed very attractive: "The main selling point will be the price, since by not taking a commission, FlixCar will necessarily be cheaper. You'll be able to pay your driver directly in cash in the car." To read the full article, click HERE.

📞 Contact and phone number

En savoir plus

Couldn't find the information you were looking for? Rest assured, this page will be updated as soon as we learn more about the FlixCar carpooling platform! You can also check the FAQ tab on the FlixCar website, even though it currently has little information...

We'll also share the email address and phone number of the platform if you'd like to contact an advisor, whether to book a carpool trip or request a refund. In any case, this information will be available very soon! 😉

🏅 Loyalty program

En savoir plus

No information has yet been provided by FlixCar on this topic. However, some carpooling platforms such as iDVROOM or BlaBlaCar don't hesitate to reward their users, for example by offering a toll badge, car wash vouchers or even fuel cards! That would be a great way to build loyalty among the most regular carpoolers, don't you think? 😉

🧒🏻 Policy for unaccompanied minors

En savoir plus

Here again, the cheap carpooling company FlixCar has not yet communicated on this subject. However, we can assume that minors will need to travel with parental authorisation, especially if they plan to leave the country to take a carpool trip to Germany. Safety is of course paramount: no risks should be taken in this kind of situation.

History of the Flixcar carpooling company

Were you searching for a carpooling trip and stumbled upon FlixCar? A bit odd, isn't it? Well, don't worry! After launching FlixBus and FlixTrain, the German company FlixMobility unveiled FlixCar, its brand-new cheap carpooling service!

Never heard of it? That's normal, FlixCar has only just been announced and its service was expected to launch in 2020. For now, information remains limited... but rest assured, FlixCar routes will be available online soon, most likely in France and Germany. Note that FlixMobility already covers more than 30 destinations across Europe with FlixBus and FlixTrain.

With FlixCar, FlixMobility comes to directly compete with BlaBlaCar (and its BlaBlaBus, formerly Ouibus), already well established since 2019. The goal? To offer an alternative in areas poorly served by bus or train, and to complete their transport offering by now combining bus, train and carpooling (a bit like Tictactrip). A nice bonus: the different modes of transport will be integrated with one another, for a smooth experience.

So, what else can we tell you about FlixCar? That the full launch is planned for this year, and that your favourite comparison site, Tictactrip, will of course be on it! You'll soon find your first FlixCar routes directly on our site.

Surprise! FlixCar arrived earlier than expected: since Tuesday 17 December 2019, you can already book a carpooling trip. Why this early launch? Because of the December 2019 strikes, of course. FlixMobility decided to speed up the launch of its service to meet urgent mobility needs. A godsend for travellers during the holiday season!

The prices offered by FlixCar are very competitive: the platform takes no commission, unlike BlaBlaCar, which generally charges between 0% and 25% (with a minimum of €1 per trip). Users therefore only pay the cost of the trip, possibly directly to the driver. Another strong point: FlixCar focuses on routes poorly covered by bus, such as Bordeaux–Limoges or Rennes–Tours. Pretty cool, right?
