Have other questions before you set off? Here are some useful answers:

On Blablacar carpooling, there's no strict luggage regulation, but practical guidelines are provided to make things easier for passengers and drivers to organise together.

Here are the formats generally accepted:

  • Small luggage: backpack (around 5 kg)
  • Medium luggage: cabin luggage (around 10 kg)
  • Large luggage: standard suitcase (around 20 kg)

These guidelines are indicative. The space available depends on the vehicle and the number of passengers. It's therefore essential to let the driver know if you're travelling with a bulky item (instrument, pushchair, folded bike, etc.).

To avoid any unpleasant surprises, we recommend that you:

  • Mention your luggage as soon as you book, via the Blablacar messaging system
  • Send a clear description of its size and weight
  • Confirm with the driver that there's enough space

On board a BlaBlaCar Bus, the rules are stricter and clearly defined:

  • 2 items of hand luggage allowed (to keep in the cabin)
  • 1 hold luggage item included (200 cm combined, 23 kg maximum)
  • Up to 2 additional items of luggage possible (as a paid option)

Luggage must be labelled with your name, phone number and address. Fragile or valuable items (computer, documents, money) should stay in your hand luggage.

Specific conditions apply to certain equipment:

  • Bikes: only accepted if dismantled and packed in a bag (max. 200 cm, 23 kg)
  • Electric scooters, pushchairs, musical instruments: subject to availability, contact the carrier in advance

For more information on the bus's specific rules, visit the BlaBlaCar Bus Luggage page.

Blablacar doesn't charge extra fees for standard luggage, but a driver may ask for a contribution for a large volume. On the bus, additional luggage is charged according to the ticket's conditions.

Also note that your personal belongings aren't automatically insured by Blablacar. In case of loss or theft, you'll need to turn to a personal insurance policy or contact the carrier concerned.

To travel with peace of mind, we recommend that you:

  • Favour soft bags, which fit more easily into the boot
  • Keep luggage to the strict minimum
  • Let the driver know in advance about any unusual luggage
  • Arrive a little early at the departure point to load up calmly

On BlaBlaCar Bus, the maximum size for hand luggage corresponds to a cabin suitcase or a small bag that fits above or under your seat. To avoid extra fees or boarding refusals, always check the permitted dimensions, especially for unusual equipment like an electric scooter.

Finally, keep your valuables with you in the cabin. If you need to make a claim, contact customer service or the carrier concerned directly.
