  • If you were looking for the pope in the 14th century, you wouldn't find him in Rome, but at the Palais des Papes in Avignon (for a good part of the century, at least). Nowadays, you'd have to go to Italy! But we recommend heading to Avignon rather than Rome, it's shorter!

  • Why not dance on the Pont d'Avignon? Careful though, this bridge (known as the Pont Saint-Bénezet) has already been swept away several times!

  • Not far from the Palais des Papes, you can rest in the shade of the beautiful Rocher des Doms garden.

If you've never been to Avignon, it's time to pack your bags! And if you've already visited, we shouldn't even need to tell you to go back, because you're surely already keen! With the help of our bus comparator, find the trip you need. Getting to Avignon has never been so simple and affordable! Whether it's an Aix to Avignon trip or rather a Paris to Avignon one, we've got it all! A TGV to Avignon? A bus to Avignon? A carpool to Avignon? Everything's possible and within reach on our site!

There you go, you've arrived at Avignon TGV station? Time for your Avignon holiday, or your weekend in this most pleasant city! There's plenty to do in Avignon. For example, if you love dancing and love history, you can combine both by visiting the Pont d'Avignon (official name: the Pont Saint-Bénezet).
The Palais des Papes is of course another must-see in the city that you have to visit during your stay. This is where several popes lived during the 14th century. Avignon is therefore a city rich in history! And the palace is enormous... at 15,000 square metres, it's the largest Gothic castle in Europe. Incredible, right?
No need to travel to the other end of the continent to visit this imposing monument! We'd remind you that a Paris to Avignon train only takes... 3h35!
After visiting the palace, you'll need a bit of rest. We suggest a break at the Rocher des Doms. You can relax in the shade while enjoying a breathtaking view of the city! At the end of the day, you could eat at the restaurant L'Essentiel if you have a bit of cash. But if you're running low on money (because you didn't take a cheap bus to Avignon, for example...) don't worry. There are also good, more affordable restaurants like O' Petit À Petit.

One last thing: every year the Festival d'Avignon takes place, a major theatre event. The whole event takes place in an exceptional setting... none other than the Palais des Papes! You can attend the festival in summer, in July.
If we had to sum up Avignon in 3 words, we'd say: historic, charming and cultural!

Finally, why not finish your stay in style with a tour of Provence? Indeed, visiting Avignon alone isn't enough to see all the beauty this region has to offer!
