Dreaming of discovering Italy by high-speed train? Trenitalia France (formerly Thello) is the company for you!
Since 2010, Thello operated the rail links between France and Italy. But since December 2021, the Thello brand has disappeared to make way for Trenitalia France, the French subsidiary of the Italian rail operator. Gone are the night trains and classic connections, now replaced by Frecciarossa 1000 high-speed trains.
Trenitalia France now offers you fast and comfortable journeys between France and Italy:
On the other hand, the former Thello lines have been discontinued:
Like other foreign operators, Trenitalia France does not have cabotage rights in France. This means it is not possible to buy a ticket solely to travel between two French cities, for example between Paris and Lyon: your journey must necessarily include a trip to or from Italy.
Today, rail competition is very real: on the Paris – Lyon high-speed line, the busiest in Europe, Trenitalia France offers a solid alternative to SNCF. Thanks to its Frecciarossa trains, Italy is now closer than ever!
