FAQ for the Flixtrain company

💸 Cancellation and refund policy for tickets

En savoir plus

As with many rail companies, Flixtrain allows you to cancel your tickets free of charge, provided you do so before the departure time. A refund is then issued, unless the ticket was given to you by the company. However, no refund is possible in case of a no-show.

In the event of a significant delay, Flixtrain offers compensation in the form of vouchers usable on a future trip. If the delay is known in advance, the voucher is generally sent automatically. Otherwise, you will need to contact customer service to request one.

Want to change your itinerary? At Flixtrain, there is no direct modification: you must first cancel your ticket, then book a new one. A somewhat cumbersome process, but a necessary one if you want to change your trip.

🚉 Points of sale for travel

En savoir plus

Flixtrain trains will soon be available on our bus, train and carpooling comparison site Tictactrip. You'll be able to compare their prices at a glance with other modes of transport… and sometimes find that the bus remains up to 50% cheaper. 😉

You can also buy a Flixtrain ticket directly on board the group's trains and buses, online on their website, or at several physical points of sale located in the train stations of Berlin, Bucharest, Paris, Lyon, Frankfurt, Dresden, Prague or even Munich.

For an even simpler booking, the Flix mobile app lets you buy your ticket in just a few clicks directly from your smartphone.

🎟 Ticket types

En savoir plus

Aboard Flixtrain — the rail equivalent of FlixBus — there is neither first nor second class: all travelers enjoy the same fare and the same travel conditions. A simple, transparent and fair policy.

It is nevertheless possible to customize your journey by adding a few options, such as choosing your seat (from €2.99) or adding extra luggage (from €3.99, depending on the size). These services are not mandatory, but offer extra comfort for those who want it.

You can also travel without any options, at the standard Flixtrain fare, and enjoy a smart trip at an ultra-competitive price.

🧒🏻 Policy for unaccompanied minors

En savoir plus

FlixBus and Flixtrain, both operated by the FlixMobility group, apply a specific policy regarding minors traveling.
Children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult.

Young people aged 10 to 14 can travel alone aboard Flixtrain trains, provided they have written authorization signed by a legal guardian.

From age 15, minors can travel unaccompanied, like any adult passenger, simply by presenting a form of identification.

🆒 Safety, comfort and onboard services

En savoir plus

Safety is ensured aboard Flixtrain trains, since access is only possible with a valid ticket. As for onboard services, you can enjoy a selection of drinks and snacks, similar to what you'd find aboard a TGV, an IDTGV or an InOui train.

To ensure a pleasant trip, Flixtrain trains are also equipped with free Wi-Fi and air conditioning, ensuring optimal comfort throughout the journey.

🏅 Loyalty program

En savoir plus

To date, Flixtrain does not have a loyalty program for regular travelers. However, the rail subsidiary of Flixbus frequently offers promotional deals, which can be found at this address.

♿️ Access for people with reduced mobility

En savoir plus

If you are traveling in a wheelchair with Flixtrain, it is recommended to contact the company between 14 and 36 days before your departure to check the accessibility of your route. To do this, call +49 30 300 137 100. As the trains operate exclusively in Germany, the number is local and the cost of the call depends on your operator.

If you are able to use a regular seat, you can book your ticket normally. However, if you need onboard assistance, you will need to notify the teams at least 36 hours before departure, via the same number.

Your wheelchair must meet the following dimensions: 60 cm wide, 120 cm long, and a maximum weight of 350 kg (including you).

If you are traveling with a service dog or with an essential companion, please inform Flixtrain at least 36 hours in advance. In this case, a seat will be reserved free of charge for your companion, subject to presenting supporting documentation or a medical certificate on the day of travel.

🧳 Baggage policy

En savoir plus

Each passenger can bring one suitcase and one hand luggage item aboard Flixtrain trains. No specific dimensions are required, as long as you can carry your belongings yourself and they do not inconvenience other passengers or block movement on the train.

If your trip includes a connecting FlixBus journey, the bus's baggage policy applies: you can then bring two checked bags as well as one piece of hand luggage. Ideal if you're traveling with a bit more.

👨‍✈️ Boarding

En savoir plus

As with low-cost train lines or long-distance coaches, it is recommended to arrive about 30 minutes before departure to board without any stress. Your ticket, shown on your smartphone or printed out, is enough to board: no gate check-in is required.

💺 Seat selection

En savoir plus

With Flixtrain, seat selection is not offered at the time of booking, unlike, for example, a TGV inOui. If you absolutely want a window seat or a quieter area, you'll have to count on boarding early: seats are unassigned, so it's up to you to choose one that's available once you're on board.

📞 Contact and phone number

En savoir plus

For any question left unanswered, you can contact Flixtrain directly by filling out this form available on their website.

🐯 Access for pets

En savoir plus

Pets are allowed aboard Flixtrain trains… provided they are small and easy to carry. Please note, however: if you continue your journey with a FlixBus leg, your four-legged companions unfortunately will not be able to join you.

On Flixtrain lines, only small animals are allowed, and only if they travel in a suitable carrier. They must also stay quiet so as not to disturb other passengers.

Good news: transporting small animals is completely free, as is the transport of guide dogs, which can accompany their owner for the entire journey.

History of the Flixtrain train company

Often called Flixtrain, Flixbus trains or even Flexitrains, these low-cost trains represent the rail extension of the famous FlixBus company. With Flixtrain, discover a new way to travel affordably across Germany and soon across Europe.

Born from the acquisition of Locomore and driven by the digital strategy of the FlixMobility group, the Flixtrain brand was officially launched in 2018, following an initial commercial operation in 2017. Among the first routes launched, the very popular Berlin – Stuttgart line quickly became a great success.

Today, Flixtrain connects major German cities such as Berlin, Hamburg, Cologne, Frankfurt and Stuttgart, offering fast, comfortable journeys at unbeatable prices.

With tickets starting from just a few euros, Flixtrain allows you to discover Germany without breaking the bank. Travelers benefit from a modern service including space for large luggage, free Wi-Fi, power outlets at every seat, and light catering available on board. Booking is simple and fast thanks to the Flixtrain mobile app.

The operating model relies on collaboration with specialized partners, such as Leo Express, who provide traction and part of the rolling stock. This flexible structure, combined with FlixBus's marketing expertise, allows Flixtrain to offer genuine bus + train intermodality within a coherent network.

This strategy aims to offer a compelling alternative to major national operators such as Deutsche Bahn or the SNCF and its low-cost Ouigo trains. With Flixtrain, the ambition is clear: to democratize rail travel and make mobility accessible to as many people as possible.

You can now book your Flixtrain train tickets on our comparison site Tictactrip. Thanks to our unique technology, easily combine several modes of transport (train, bus, carpooling) to create the fastest, cheapest or most flexible route according to your needs.

Flixbus, Flixtrain and Flixcar all belong today to the same group, FlixMobility (formerly called Fleximobility in some media), which is developing a complete ecosystem of affordable and modern ground transportation.

Another advantage: Flixtrain offers a real-time traffic system on its official website, allowing you to track your train's status before departure. A very handy tool for traveling with peace of mind.

Finally, Flixtrain had announced plans to launch five lines in France starting in 2020 (Paris – Brussels, Paris – Lyon, Paris – Nice, Paris – Toulouse, Paris – Bordeaux). Although these projects were delayed, they illustrate the group's European ambition, which could become a major player alongside TER, TGV and low-cost offers like Ouigo.
